Hide Your Cookbooks

It's official: I almost killed us with my cooking. There was an exploded plate, flames, paper towels going up in large, flaky ashes. No, nothing's damaged, and no one is hurt except the ring finger on my right hand which sustained a small cut during the picking up of the aforementioned exploded plate.

Then we went out to eat.

I am totally a junior amateur.

kate- only pyrex-brand glassware and crockery can sustain direct or indirect application of heat (as opposed to microwave radiation). It's a good investment.

what were you trying to make?

I was trying to make General Tso's Chicken. And it was going so well, except that due to limited counter space I had set on the front right burner a ceramic plate full of freshly fried chicken transfered from the wok next to it. I went to turn the back right burner on and I turned on the WRONG burner, and didn't notice until the plate exploded and the chicken went up into flames.

Lesson: Only idiots put paper and ceramic things on stove burners.
